When you think of a safari, often Africa comes to mind. Maybe you see a rickety jeep in the grasslands surrounded by wild animals. Want to take a safari but stay in the U.S.? Then you should consider Texas Fossil Rim. There you can see a variety of animals roaming together on 1500 acres of land from the comfort of your own car. Or stop at the halfway point and get a meal at the Overlook Caf. The views over Chalk Mountain are unbelievable, and the Nature Store has a variety of gifts and souvenirs.

If you want a more personal experience, consider one of the guided tours. The Behind the Scenes tour takes guests our in an open-air vehicle for a more realistic experience. A naturalist comes along to point out the sights and answer questions.

For those who would enjoy some exercise through the beautiful landscape, a bike tour might be perfect. Tours range from easy rides, designed for families with children, as well as more extensive, adult-only trips.

Another great thing about Fossil Rim is that it can be visited in all types of weather. Rain or shine, the animals will still be out. So you can save your sunny vacation days for the amusement park and still make the most of your time. The park is also open on Sundays. Lastly, animals that are recovering in the wild have increasing populations.

For teachers, the park also offers classroom-oriented activities. You can bring your class to the park, or the park can bring some of the animals to you. Some of the current programs available include learning activities with insects and studying the weather. With insects, children can learn about dying with ink made from bugs, keeping arthropods alive in a classroom, and studying insects out in their own playground. For the weather, students will learn how to use thermometers, barometers, rain gauges as well as equipment to test wind speed and humidity. Programs discussing mammals and plants are in the works for the near future.

Niagara-on-the-Lake is only 20 miles to the north, and offers many boutiques for those who would rather spend the day shopping. If theater is your thing, the town is also home to the Shaw Festival, with the only theater in the world specializing in plays written by George Bernard Shaw.

If you are looking for a new vice, consider following the Ontario Wine Route. There you can sample wines from several wineries until you find your favorite. Or if you enjoy taking risks, consider spending some time at Casino Niagara, a twenty-four hour a day gambling center across from the falls.

No matter what you plan to see while at Niagara Falls, if you are spending the night you should insist on a room with a view. For the best views from your hotel room, consider the Canadian side. The hotels on the Canadian side offer more heads-on views, while the ones on the American side can only catch glimpses.

For movie history buffs, consider staying at the Skyline Brock on the Canadian side. This is the hotel where Marilyn Monroe and fellow cast members stayed during the shooting of Niagara. Easy to get to, with a walkway connecting it to Casino Niagara, it offers a 10th floor restaurant with a spectacular view of the falls and rooms with king-sized beds and balcony Jacuzzis.

If you want a more modern taste in hotels, consider the Renaissance Fallsview Hotel overlooking Horseshoe Falls. A room with a double whirlpool on the highest floor offers the best view. It has a Rooftop Dining Room if you choose to make a reservation. Be sure to ask for a window seat. If you still want to gamble, take the shuttle down to the Casino.

Frank Redford, who grew up under the influence of Native American culture, built the motel in 1949. His business began when he build a teepee in Kentucky to display some Native American artifacts. A year later, he added teepee shaped cabins to the premises to offer visitors a place to stay during their trip. In 1937, he got a patent for the design. There were originally supposed to be seven Wigwam motels throughout the United States, and while the others were present for a short time, only two of them have been as well preserved as this one. When all seven villages were operational, each had the sets of teepee cabins around a large office teepee.

The exterior of the cabins and the office were designed to reflect Native American art. In Wigwam Motel, there are ninteen teepees made of both wood and concrete structures that serve as lodging facilities for guests. Each teepee is thirty foot in height, and they all are equipped to meet the needs of even modern travelers. Each one has two windows. There is a partition at the back of the unit for a bathroom. The inside of the cabins are also decorated to reflect Native American art. This motel includes an outdoor swimming facility and a barbecue grill for guests to use.

Planning a vacation this year? If so, you should seriously consider Santa Fe on your list of places to visit. Santa Fe, New Mexico, is rich in history as well as in current culture. Churches aren’t the only things you should see in Santa Fe. While you are there, you should also try to visit the Museum of International Folk Art. This amazing attraction contains more than one hundred and thirty five thousand pieces. It opened in 1953, and currently has four distinct wings that house hundreds of exhibits. The Girard Wing opened in 1982 when Alexander Girard donated a large collection to the museum, which includes popular art, toys, textile material, and multi-national folk art. The Hispanic Heritage Wing primarily contains exhibits that are culturally significant to New Mexico. Artifacts included in this exhibit span four centuries. The Bartlett Wing houses rotating exhibits. There are two galleries in this wing (which was named for the founder of the museum) that have included exhibits ranging from Turkish culture to Tibetan tradition. The Neutrogena Wing is primarily a textile display encompassing the collection donated by the Neutrogena Corporation.
